The Semester Drags On

HAVE spent the last few weeks doing nothing but teaching. I'm currently teaching a community college course in "World Civilization" here in California. I will simply say that, while I appreciate being called "professor" now and again, it's not been what I've expected. That could be openly interpreted as both a positive and a negative, but I'll keep my fool mouth shut.

Suffice it to say, I've been busy.

I have done very little gaming related stuff lately. I have mail that I need to send to friends in Virginia (Phil M. - Your Marlburian book is still on my desk, waiting to ship out.) I haven't seen as much of California as I'd like. Have been to the beach twice since moving here.

Yea, I'm busy.

However, I have acquired a few goodies lately. Got myself some of the 1/3000 scale WTJ pre-dreadnought miniatures for the Russo-Japanese War and they are beautiful. Really nice. Better than the Navwars I have; though I do have a warm spot in my heart for NAVWAR, I have to say that the WTJ fairly blows most of what I have from NAVWAR away. It's finely sculpted, completely flash free, and takes paint beautifully. I recently experimented with a new style of inking/shading for pulling off the green shade of the First Pacific Squadron, and it's turned out beautifully. All due to the sculpting. Will try to get some photos up when I'm not doing two hundred thousand things at once.

I am, in my very limited spare time, setting up a very simple naval campaign for the North County group. We'll be using the GWAS board game "1905" for operational moves, and David Manley's "In The Grand Manner" for combat purposes. I am very impressed by the latter, and have managed to get in a few games of it (doesn't take terribly long to execute). Sent some copies to Virginia, but have heard nothing back about whether they are appreciated. In my mind, one of the better (and simpler) sets I've found over the years.

Jen has been proposing that we do a new LARP here in Southern California. I suppose it's a possibility. But the gaming community goes hot and cold here. I've really been trying to get ensconced here, and I've made some friends, but I'm not well known for my social skills, and well... I'm still trying to get used to it all.
Jen and I will be here for at least the next concieveable year, and so I'll need to settle into it pretty damned quickly.

Not much else to report, unfortunately. I have not yet heard anything concrete about my proposed WAB supplements - there was some communication just prior to Historicon, and then, nothing. I hope they're still considering me, but frankly don't think it likely, and don't think pestering them to death about it will do me any good.

Anyway, here's hoping that things cool off soon.

-A.
